Update on Summer EBT

As of August 2024, a new SEBT card (similar to an EBT card) will be sent to the child’s home address.

The benefit value of $120 will be ready for use immediately. It can be used just like a debit card.

Your card
The front of your new card will read “Summer EBT,” with the child’s name and case number.

SEBT benefits will expire 122 days after the benefits became available on the card.

Families can create an Edge account to see their benefit balance. Details can be found on the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families web site.

Who can receive SEBT?
Children are automatically enrolled in SEBT if they are between the ages of 7-17, are in foster care or are a member of a household receiving any of the following:

  • Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Medical Assistance (MA)
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).

Children also qualify if they attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) and their application for free/reduced lunch was approved between July 1, 2023 and August 31,2024.

There are no age restrictions for children who qualify through the NSLP/SBP application process.

If you haven’t completed an application, see if you qualify.

Visit the EBT site if you have NOT completed an Educational Benefits Application and/or are NOT enrolled in any program listed above.

  • FCC Affordable Connectivity Program/Reduced price internet programs
  • Some summer camps
  • Athletic programs and/or childcare centers offering scholarships or discounts.
