SUMMER EBT IS NOW SUNBUCKS

SUN Bucks (formerly the Summer EBT program) is an income-based food support program that provides families with $120 per eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out for the summer.

When children no longer receive free meals at school, their households might need extra help putting food on the table. The SUN Bucks program is designed to meet this seasonal need.

Most eligible children are automatically enrolled.

The SUN Bucks card will be sent to the child’s home address. The child’s name and card number will be printed on the front of the card. 

The benefit value of $120 will be ready for use immediately and can be accessed just like a debit card.  SUN Bucks benefits will expire 122 days after the benefits were available on the card.

Children will be automatically enrolled if they are between the ages of 7-17 and are homeless, runaway, migrant, or in foster care and/or a member of a household receiving any of the following:

  • Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Medical Assistance (MA) (Households must meet 185% federal poverty level income requirements)
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR),

Children also qualify if they attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program and their application for free/reduced lunch was approved between July 1, 2024-Aug. 31,2025.

There are no age restrictions for children who qualify through the School Lunch or Breakfast application process.
