Federal nutrition programs provide children from low-income families free, nutritious meals to help them learn, play and grow in the summer when they are out of school.

There are three child nutrition summer feeding offerings:

  • Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
  • Seamless Summer Option.
  • For schools that operate year-round can continue to provide meals through the National School Lunch Program/School Breakfast Program (NSLP/SBP).

The summer meals programs are an important link in maintaining the health and well-being of Minnesota’s food insecure children.

Lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor academic performance once school begins.
